This presentation will explore the progression from co-regulation to self-regulation, highlighting how caregivers and other supportive adults can help children develop the skills needed to understand, manage, and respond to their emotions effectively. Participants will examine emotional regulation across developmental stages, learn how co-regulation supports the gradual development of self-regulation, and explore practical strategies for fostering emotional resilience, connection, and regulation in everyday settings. Case examples and practical take home skills will be provided throughout the presentation.

Dr. Heather Siek is a full-time Assistant Professor of Psychology at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). She also is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Minnesota for the past 14 years, primarily working with childhood anxiety and early childhood trauma within the non-profit setting.
