10:00am - 11:30am

Audience: Caregivers & Professionals

Level: Intermediate
Ages addressed: 6-18

Self-criticism is common in children, especially those who have experienced adversity. Internalized shame and self-criticism can make it hard for kids to recover from mistakes, cope with challenges, and believe in themselves. While caregivers naturally want to build children's confidence, reassurance alone often isn't enough to change the way a child relates to themselves.

In this interactive workshop, you'll learn practical, research-informed strategies to help children (and you) develop self-compassion, a skill that supports resilience, emotional well-being, and healthy motivation. Join Jamie Lynn Tatera, creator of the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Children and Caregivers program and author of the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbook for Kids, to learn practical ways to help kids build a kind inner voice.

You can expect to learn:
* Signs of self-criticism and shame, and how these internal habits form
* Helpful ways to respond when a child expresses harsh self-judgment
* The difference between self-esteem and self-compassion, and how self-compassion provides more stability
* Adult out-loud modeling that helps children build their own self-compassion
* Playful, evidence-based activities that help children build a kinder inner voice
