Supporting Visits Between Incarcerated Parents and Their Minor Children

This one-hour workshop will consider the complexities and benefits of maintaining connections between incarcerated parents and their children and examine considerations for caregivers and professionals. Participants will explore the practical, emotional, and developmental aspects of visits, gaining tools to better support families navigating the carceral system.

We will consider how to:
-Navigate the logistical challenges and practical considerations of coordinating visits between parents and children in prisons and jails.
-Identify the specific developmental needs of children of different ages and how to prepare them for visits and support them after.
-Consider the distinct roles and boundaries for kinship caregivers, non-relative foster parents, and professionals in supporting these connections.
