How a child learns to cope with adversity plays a vital role in their psychological development. Resilience, often described as the “crown jewel” of childhood mental health, has gained significant attention over the past decade. While the term has become a buzzword, much of the discourse remains focused on definitions and broad benefits, with less emphasis on how to actively help a child build resilience in real-world settings.

The aim of this workshop is to shift the discussion of childhood resilience from theory to practice. The main objectives are:

-Provide an overview of the latest research on resilience in children
-Explore evidence-based interventions that strengthen a child's psychological immune system and bolder resilience
-Offer practical, concrete strategies that professionals and caregivers can use to foster resilience every day

We as professionals have a great understanding of resilience, and the goal of this workshop is to turn our understanding into action, and explore how we can nurture the miracle of resilience in the children we serve.

Dr. Sam Marzouk is a clinical child psychologist who works with organizations who want to invest in youth by combining science, storytelling and concrete tools to help children grow into healthy, resilient adults. Dr. Marzouk is the owner of Promethean Psychology, a private psychology practice in the Minneapolis area. As a specialist in pediatric mental health, Dr. Marzouk works with children and adolescents with a variety of psychosocial concerns. As a professional speaker, Dr. Marzouk regularly provides workshops and trainings on pediatric mental health to psychologists, schools, parents, pediatricians and other pediatric medical providers. He is also a contributing author to the Minnesota Pediatrician, a quarterly educational newsletter of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
