Secondary trauma, also known as vicarious trauma, is the emotional and psychological impact experienced by people who are indirectly exposed to the traumatic experiences of others. It can occur through hearing details about or witnessing the aftermath of a trauma, and it can lead to symptoms similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder. Secondary trauma is common among helping professionals and those close to trauma survivors. This workshop will educate participants to better understand the symptoms of secondary trauma, the risk factors, and ways to cope with challenges that may arise from being exposed to secondary trauma. We encourage those interested in the workshop to attend both days, as Day 1 will lay the foundation for Day 2, which will build on that knowledge with new, advanced material.
