Date:   Thursday, April 25, 2019
Time:   9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Location:   OTAC, Location Confirmation Upon Registration

We live in a diverse world. This means that we get opportunities to work with people who share identities with us and people who have very different identities from ours. As supporters, we constantly strive to increase our ability to work with people from a broad diversity of backgrounds and experiences. Cultural Responsiveness means changing and individualizing what we are doing to create supports that make sense and are relevant to each person with whom we support. In other words, we respond to the unique needs and preferences of others, even when those needs and preferences are different from our own. During this workshop participants will:

• Be able to understand and explore how culture relates to identity in themselves and others

• Have a basic understanding of the concept of bias and leave with resources aimed at identifying and addressing biases in their own lives

• Understand the importance of supporting cultural identities and gain tips for doing so
