The American Mental Health Alliance - Oregon Chapter helps support and market competent, ethical mental health services that preserve privacy and confidentiality. On the "THERAPIST LOCATOR" page of the americanmentalhealth.com website you can locate a therapist or counselor in your area. Family Matters is a newsletter that the Special Needs Adoption Coalition (SNAC) publishes monthly for families. Each issue features descriptions and photos of Oregon children in state care waiting to be adopted. Devoted to adoption and parenting topics, the newsletter also provides informative articles, personal testimonies, book reviews and a statewide calendar of events. Family Matters is a wonderful way to discover more about the waiting children, as well as to stay connected with current and relevant adoptive issues. Northwest Adoptive Families Association (NAFA) is a non-profit, all volunteer support group for adoptive families and those interested in adoption. NAFA is actively involved in education, advocacy and support for its nearly three hundred member families located throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington Oregon Lifespan Respite Care Program is part of the Oregon Department of Human Services Community Partnership Team and helps counties develop and implement community-based lifespan respite care networks. The Lifespan networks help families and caregivers locate respite care services in their communities. Portland State University Child Welfare Partnership is a collaboration among the Graduate School of Social Work, the School of Extended Studies, and the Department of Human Services. It is one of the first university-based programs in the nation to integrate child welfare research, training and graduate education into a unified, coordinated effort to enhance outcomes for families and children. For training subjects, select the region you are interested in (Eastern, Southern, Western, Metro). Portland State University Postgraduate Training Certificate in Therapy with Adoptive Families provides a series of advanced, evidence-based courses for mental health professionals in the specialized theories and practices for treating adopted children who have histories of abuse and neglect, for strengthening their family systems, and for enhancing parental and children's resiliencies.
