About ORPARC

ORPARC

What is ORPARC?

The Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center (ORPARC) is a division of Northwest Resource Associates, a multi-faceted non-profit that provides an array of services for the human services community. With six offices in three states, NWRA has been successfully designing, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating programs since 1980. Along with ORPARC, our current programs include:

ORPARC is contracted to provide services for Oregon DHS adoptive and assisted guardianship families. ORPARC was founded in April 1999 through a contract with the State of Oregon's Department of Human Services (DHS).

Who Can Use ORPARC?

  • Oregon families who have adopted children through any state foster care system;
  • Oregon assisted guardianship families;
  • Oregon DHS adoption staff;
  • Oregon Special Needs Adoption Coalition staff.

What Does ORPARC Provide?

  • information, assistance and referral
  • in-depth consultation, advocacy and support
  • parent education and trainings
  • lending library
  • assistance to families in establishing or connecting to systems of support such as groups, respite and other parents

Information, assistance and referral

Professional staff provide supportive listening, problem-solving assistance, and help developing respite resources and one-to-one mentoring and support. ORPARC refers families to local and regional resources such as therapists, support groups, mentor families, community services, educational programs, recreational program, and respite care providers.

Parent education and trainings

ORPARC offers trainings throughout the state at no charge to eligible users. Translation services and special accommodations are also available. Some trainings may be open to non-eligible adoptive parents and professionals as space allows and for a fee.

Lending Library

ORPARC maintains a lending library of materials related to adoption, guardianship, parenting, child development, and special needs. Materials include:

  • Books
  • Audiotapes
  • Videos
  • Information Packets
  • Articles and pamphlets
  • Spanish language materials

Support Groups

ORPARC maintains a list of support groups statewide. ORPARC can assist in forming new groups and enhancing existing groups.

ORPARC lists sites of other support and information resources pertaining to adoption and special needs. Web resource categories are:
